The Proton X50 RC (Running Change) builds on its predecessor’s success. Launched in June 2024, it received over 8,000 bookings in just one month. This reaffirms its popularity in Malaysia’s compact SUV segment.

Interior Design

The cabin layout remains familiar, but several tech upgrades enhance the experience.

• Infotainment System: A new 10.3-inch touchscreen is now standard. It runs on a dual quad-core processor with 2GB RAM and 64GB storage. As a result, the system boots 33% faster and loads content 55% quicker.

• Digital Instrument Panel: Previously limited to top trims, the full digital cluster now comes in all variants. This brings a premium feel across the board.

• Connectivity: The Proton Link app allows remote engine start and climate control, available from the Executive trim upwards. Spotify is supported. However, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are still missing.

• Comfort Features: The interior retains brushed aluminum accents and leather seats. You’ll also find single-zone air-conditioning with an N95 filter and rear air vents. The Premium and Flagship trims now include a powered tailgate.

Exterior Design

On the outside, the X50 RC keeps its sporty and bold styling.

• Lighting: All variants get LED DRLs and fog lamps. Standard models use LED headlights, while higher trims use projector LEDs with auto high beam.
• Wheels & Tires: The Standard trim rides on 17-inch dual-tone alloys with Goodyear tires. Executive, Premium, and Flagship trims use larger 18-inch wheels. The Premium and Flagship also get Continental UC6 tires.
• Color Choices: You can choose from five colors – Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey, Ocean Blue, and Passion Red. Meanwhile, the Flagship offers a two-tone paint scheme with a black roof and panoramic sunroof.

Safety & Performance

The X50 RC continues to deliver strong performance and safety features.

• Engines:

• • Standard, Executive, Premium: 1.5L turbocharged 3-cylinder with 150 PS and 226 Nm.
  • Flagship: 1.5L TGDi engine producing 177 PS and 255 Nm.
  • All models use a 7-speed DCT and front-wheel drive.

• Improved NVH: Over 20 insulation improvements make the cabin quieter and more refined.
• Safety Features:

• • Standard: 4 airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC, traction control, hill assist, auto brake hold, and ISOFIX.
  • Executive, Premium, Flagship: 6 airbags.
  • Flagship: Adds Level 2 ADAS, including adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, AEB, and auto parking.

• 360 Camera: Premium and Flagship trims get a clearer 360-degree camera system. It offers 3.3 times better resolution and a 3D live feed.
