Proton X90: A Complete Overview

Proton X90 marks a new chapter for Proton. It’s the brand’s first mild-hybrid SUV, blending performance, comfort, and advanced safety. Offered in four variants—Standard, Executive, Premium, and Flagship—it meets various needs and preferences.

Interior Design

Inside, the Proton X90 focuses on space and comfort. It comes in both six- and seven-seat layouts. The Standard, Executive, and Premium variants use a 2-3-2 setup, while the Flagship offers a 2-2-2 layout with captain seats in the second row. This improves rear passenger comfort.

All variants include a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and dual-zone automatic climate control. Air vents are also provided for all three rows. Moving up to the Executive variant, you’ll get leatherette seats, a power-adjustable driver seat, ventilated front seats, and a 360° camera with 3D view.

In the Premium variant, features like Nappa leather seats, ambient lighting, and a wireless phone charger are added. Finally, the Flagship model brings in premium touches like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated second-row captain seats, and a “Boss Switch” to adjust the front passenger seat from the rear.

Exterior Design

The exterior showcases Proton’s “Ethereal Bow” grille, inspired by traditional songket motifs. LED headlamps are standard. While the Standard and Executive variants come with 18-inch wheels, the Premium and Flagship step up to 19-inch alloys.

Additionally, the Executive variant adds useful features like auto headlamps with a Follow-me-Home function, rain-sensing wipers, and a powered tailgate. The Flagship variant goes further by including a panoramic sunroof, adding a luxury feel.

Safety and Performance

Under the hood, every variant features a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. Together, they produce 190 PS and 300 Nm of torque. This setup improves acceleration by up to 15% and lowers CO₂ emissions by 13%.

The power is delivered to the front wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, ensuring smooth performance. Importantly, the X90 holds a five-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.

Safety is strong across all models. All variants include six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stability control (ESC), and hill descent control. However, the Premium and Flagship models add a full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). These include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Departure Prevention, and Autonomous Emergency Braking.

Notably, Proton introduces several firsts in the X90. These include Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Collision Warning, and Traffic Sign Information.
